Page jumping links

Was just wondering if you could put direct links to the second third and subsequent pages of a thread next to the thread title as is common on many other message boards as well as maybe have links to these pages at teh top of each threads page.

Because at the moment haveing to go tothe first page of the thread scroll all the way to the bottom and then hit the last page is kinda anoying and im sure this option will be very usefull once some posts start becomming very lengthy ... not to mention maybe saving a little bandwidth on not having to load the first page 300 times Wink

I think this would be an amazing idea because it keeps us from having to flip through many pages at once. Also, we could use it to note how many pages of posts there actually are on the thread for kicks and giggles. In relavance to u saying scroll all the way down to the bottom though it would be a LOT better if we could get those page numbers also posted at the top of the forums, and possibly maybe a box we could put a number into to go to a certain page number instead of flipping through god knows how many pages or editing the address line.

yeha something like this where clicking the arrows on either side will take you to the first / last page of the topic. I dont think we really need a feature where we can type in a page number because to be honest i dont think many topics will break the 10 page mark that often.

Its a good idea and everyone obviously thinks so as well the question is more why did it get left out of the forum design in the first place?

I think the reason for this is that these forums are a generic base of a forum something like phpbulletin that is open source. This allows a person to download a forum that has already been pre-made and saves a lot of time and then people such as Travis Apple who are fluent coders can modify the code and change it into something that they can later use. I'd say find the maker of these forums in the first place and ask them. It's probably a time issue vs processing power issue. Some people only have say, 500mhz processor servers and every little extra feature can mean a good deal of delay added on since the server would have to process every page.

I would have thought that something like this would have been in the base code of sorts as this is the first forum ive seen that didnt have it Sad

What do you mean? The majority of forums actually don't have it...I know the commercial liscence version of vbulletin doesn't even have that and its a very well known and highly used version. Also, entropiaforum.com doesn't have it either. I guess if we get it up here then that's one revolution we have over the big assholes over there.

I'm not really sure if having it in the post title is new/difficult.

My concern is that I want to be able to go to the last page without having to scroll to the end of page 1 to get to the page selection possibilities.

EF does it like in the attached picture. This is at the beginning and end of each page.
I just would like to have this at the top of our threads as well.

btw my soc's website has something similar:
see e.g. http://www.phoenixomega.eu/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=233
and the other screenshot below.

Enjoy!

It seems that dutchie is the voice of reason today Smile That is exactly what i wanted as well just a little linky under the thread title to each consecutive page and the bar the top once you click on the thread. It might not be this easy but surely it cant be so hard to copy the code for that bottom bar and paste it in again at the top of the table with a few little layout adjustments can it?

Im sure its not really that hard i just thought it was strange that something like this wouldnt be included in the base codeing of the forum ... depends what forum base code they used i suppose some would have it and others wouldnt.

Bumping this. Can we please hav the bottom line stating the # of pages repeated at the top. Reading the jokes thread becomes a little bit annoying. LOL

Enjoy!
