guest user contacts and inactive accounts

this is more of a strong suggestion. i would like to suggest that administrator use a different form or format to send the activation email .. i just spent 3 days and had to RE-register with a new account because, appearantly, peauction.com send their activation email through spam engines. do not know about most folks.. but in my primary email (which i have submitted for the first account) spam is automatically routed to bulk mail, and subsequently deleted without my ever looking at it (i tend to collect an average of 300 peice of spam each day).

also, there is NO way for a guest (or someone in transition, like i was) to contact any administrator to help resolve this sort of issue. maybe need to fix a thread where folks can contact administration without being a registered user. because if one is NOT registered, one can NOT open thread to ask administrator questions unless, one has a difficulty seeing and THIS situation did not fall within THAT catagory.

also, administration, someone please tell me how we can clear up the difficulty of 2 accounts? one inactive and one active? because the inactive one will cause difficulties, eventually.

Good ideas, but as for the email - registration and contact, its very simple, all that person needs to do is make a random new email account use it for 10 minutes use it to register then get the email, send a PM to the administrator and wait until things are cleared up then you can switch to w/e u wanted.

Either way, i had no problem registering and everything is fine for me, maybe if more people comment on this or it becomes a bigger deal maybe open something like a chat box on the right or left hand side in the blank space, where its contantly refreshed and you can chat with other people but as i recalllll... sec.. Yea, there is an open chat on the main page. You could just ask someone to join u there and ask them for help from there.. Big Grin

Gl hopefully an administrator will clear this up and take ur suggestions seriously Smile
BUT that spam thing was to go against spam bots the forums been having lately.

I can certainly see where your idea would be useful. Unfortunately though we are trolled by as many as 50-100 spam bots a day. We used to get an average of 10 spam bot signups a day. If we had a forum that did not require registration it would be full of p0rn ads and turn back into an administration nightmare.

If memory serves all the registration e-mails are sent through g-mail. This should not be an issue. I have tried a test register through yahoo mail, hotmail, gmail, my two work e-mails and a few others and have not run into any filtering problems.

Sounds like you have a paranoid spam filter Smile

As for two accounts, just PM me and let me know which username you would like deleted and I will take care of it. Welcome aboard it is good to have you.

Did you try configuring your email account to not categorize emails originating from PEAuction as spam? Email account usually have settings that can be changed to allow/disallow certain emails/addressees. I'm sure you tried this, but I'm just mentioning it just in case you haven't.

not suggesting the whole forum revert to unregistered users. Just need someplace to be able to contact the staff. and it gets very difficult to chat in the chatroom when there is no one there in the first place.

as for my receiving mail from peA - the only reason why i know it is seen as spam and bulk mail.. is THAT is where it landed in my GMail account (spam) and likely where it landed in my yahoo mail account (bulk).

i can understand why you would not want to have folks spamming in .. it is the engine going out that is difficult to understand. as for having some few folks wiling to sit in the chat room and monitor, for similar situations. need a hand?

I think simple board for non registered users would be better. To avoid spambots we can use our fancy anti-spambot system for each post (you know, before post is submitted you have to select picture with mobs). Of course if it's possible.

I am thinking a simple e-mail link on the fron page would do it. Then set up a webmail account somewhere to field the mail.

The spam filter can also be different from what kind of mail address you have. I have to mail Hotmail and Gmail. Gmail is quite good spam filter, activation mail and mail, like order-confirm-mail (if you have order something from a webbshop for example) is not being sent to the trashcan or the spam map. Hotmail in other way sent all most every mail to the trashcan or the spam map. withs is delete with in a certain time. (withs often happen to be 1 day) So the right choice of mail address is just so important. But if you happen to have a mailbox that have a aggressive spamfilter, then is check it very often or get a better mailbox Wink.

actually my boxes are quite good. as i stated .. the activation mail was sent to my gmail address and it loaded into the spam box .. and the other was sent to my yahoo address.. and there again likely landed in my bulk mail .. because of how it was addressed to me by the mailer engine. considering that this issue is now resolved (cuz i found the activation in the gmail spam box and retrieved, and responded it) not messing with mail filters.
