Ain't been skillin'. Just chillin', little bit of illin'.

Raise the ceillin'! Quit yer millin', get that soil tillin', like my homeboy Dillan!

Ya fillin' me?

Ok, ok... So, I'm a newb. Pure and simple. Also a no-depositor... I like the idea of building an empire from the ground up; paying for it seems like cheating to me.

Anyways, I wanted a little bit of advice... I've been sweating like mad, selling for what I'm SURE is underpriced, and made 8.40 PED in a couple weeks. What did I do with it, you ask?

Bought an ore-finder, extractor, and four bombs. Found a decent copper deposit on the third bomb, which will make me a small amount of profit (which DOES take bomb cost into account). Nothing on the the other three.

So my question is this; is finding a deposit in three blasts GOOD? I was hoping to find SOMETHING on near every bomb, even if it was next to worthless. I don't mind finding crappy stuff; I HATE finding nothing.

Any advice on how to find ore more reliably? Does my complete noob-status make it impossible to find the more valuable ores (ie, will I need increased skills and/or equipment to find it at all)? How does one exploit these "resource fields"; start in the center, or anywhere in the blue circle (as seen on the pe-wiki location map)? Why is the sky blue? Why can't I find a decent deodorant? What of doughnuts?? WHAAAT?!

Sorry... better now.

I like rocks. *boom, boom, boom, boom*

GL mining.
Not sure of 1 out of 4 is good or not, but let me tell you one thing: with low skills on average you loose on mining.
(and with high skills I just don't know).
Anyway, don't expect a free lunch, but of course you can be lucky and win the lottery....

Enjoy!

Well, as for a free lunch, I've got no interest in that. I play the game for its FUN factor. I like the thrill of building from NOTHING, ya know? Who wants to have it all HANDED to them? Doesn't that stop it from being a GAME anymore?

I still remember playing videogames as a kid, and then ruining all the fun of it by using cheat codes... but now I've grown up (physically), and have learned the lesson well: THE JOY IS IN THE STRUGGLE. 8)

If I end up sweating animals for YEARS, just to get enough mining skill to make it, that's fine by me. I'm in no particular rush. My ultimate goal is to be a crafter... but mining holds a sense of... I don't know... GLORY in it for me.

As for writing down my finds; WAY ahead of you there... already making detailed world-coordinate records of where I've had success (even if it IS only one, so far).

Just wish that a seismic bomb would kill MOB's too... but you can't have everything. Smile

Mining is FUN. Smile *boom, boom, SHPLATT* "Oh... sorry, man... didn't see you there."

Here is nice topic created by Grounder with depths of ores and enmatters. In order to be able to search for ores deeper you have to have 1. better skills 2. better equipment. Remember that there is no use in buying better equipment when you do not have skills (you won't be able to use equipment properly - eco will be low). For better explanation wait for our pro miners.

Why sky is blue? Here is something about that.

a nice program to track mining resources is no resources found

you might even want to track your misses. An area with a lot of misses might be less interesting (but of course could also just be mined before you).

Enjoy!

Hello,

First a caveat - I am not an uber miner.

Now, having said that I have been around a while and am in, or was in, the same boat as you - a non-depositing miner.

To answer some of your questions:
- 1 in 3 bombs getting a hit is quite good - dont expect it to continue.
- To find deposits more reliably go back to where you have found them in the past. You can use info about hits from other players but dont count on them, finds shift a little within a field and what/where you find stuff changes from player to player.
- Always use the appropriate equipment. Start with TT stuff (like you did - gratz) and only move up to the next finder when the depth you can search to is equal or greater than the one you are currently using.
- be aware of your costs. All your equip has decay and you may need to get a gun to defend your claims (shooting mobs so you can extract, not keeping other players away).

In mining you will need some other skills:
- be able to use terrain to your advantage to lead mobs away and/or kill them.
- Trading skills to sell your wares. You mentioned you sold sweat too cheap - stop doing that, its a bad habit.
- If you choose to use a gun to help with mobs (and although you dont have to at the start eventually you will have to) do so sparingly. Dont shoot mobs to get somewhere to mine our you may not have the ammo left to extract what you find.
- Pateince. As much because you are a non depoasitor as a miner but mining is one of the more expensive jobs.
- auction use - learn to use the auction to your advantage

You may also want to consider skill chips. They may seem expensive but they will help accelerate your game through improved skills. A personal experience in this area came when I hit a HoF and had my first real money in the game. Extracting the HoF gave me a significant increase in mining skill so I decided to chip some prospecting and it dramatically improved my ore mining.

Gotta go. I plan on making some guides soon so keep an eye open.

PS - of doughnuts... what are they. Marge, its raining again... Wink

*plants hands on head and screams uncontrollably. Then runs back to his time-machine to change the past again*

(Nice reference catch, btw Smile)

As a matter of fact, I just started experimenting with the auction terminal to try and reap the profit off of my 25 copper ore... lo-and-behind, I didn't have the 50 PEC fee. I had to TT four ore just to be able to do the auction.

By my admittedly hasty calculations, I'll make 11 PEC profit... IF the auction sells my remaining 21 copper. And if they DON'T sell, I'll TT the rest as well, and accept the 54 PEC loss. Aren't economics fun?

I never even considered having a gun, honestly... but if I get run over by one more Merp only to be revived in the middle of nowhere, 5km from the nearest teleporter, I'm going to scream... fast little bastards.

As for selling sweat cheap, I'm not entirely sure what going-rate is. Everyone at Port Atlantis seems to be selling for a different rate. I generally feel good if I get 0.6 per bottle. Especially since the last time I started selling for 0.65, the guy next to me IMMEDIATELY started selling for 0.62. I hate under-cutters.

By the way, everyone should be VERY happy to know that I am NOT one of those fools who is buying TT equipment from scam-artists at the auction. Come on... a 25% markup on an NPC item? Some people will do anything for a buck.

As a side-note, a piece of advice for sweat-collectors; the stables on the north-side of Fort Ithica swarm with this adorable little creature which *gasps* actually doesn't attack you when you sweat it; it runs from you! Sweat it, wait till it runs off your radar (it'll stop running then), follow it, and sweat again. Good way to get sweat safely. Though, personally, I prefer the run-n-sweat method on Young Molisks; those things are bathtubs of sweat.

Back to mining... I'm curious; how did I even find copper? I mean, isn't it generally too deep to get with TT equipment, by someone with zero skill?

Ramble over... enjoy it while it lasts. Smile

Howdy,

First - stop TT'ing ores - you are loosing your markup. Sell them to other players. Check PEAuction.com for curent prices.

Second - dont sell at auction unless you have a large quantity to sell as the auction fee will eat up most of your profit (if it sells).

Third - Glad you have found the fugibara (or whatever) for easy sweating but this will not increase your defensive skills like the ones that attack you. Just make sure you are in revive distance of somewhere with a TP for convenience.

Fourth - I have 40 agility and Merps still run me down very easily - I have nick-named them merp-missles. Dont even try to outrun them - sweat 'em till you die and make sure you paid attention to the last part of point 3.

Fifth - It will be a cold day in Springfield before someone out references me on Simpsons trivia. Hmm... maybe that already happened..... No TV and No beer make Homer something something.

for your next reference test (and no its not Simpsons) - Time is an illusion. Lunch time doubly so.

Bah, why would I get into a quote-war with a person who doesn't even exist? The average population of the universe being zero, as you of course know.

That reminds me, I forgot to wear my digital wrist watch today. That's not very froody of me.

First - Yeah, I'm going to start hawking my wares at the TP, assuming I ever get anymore ore.

Second - I learned that the hard way, unfortunately... lord, I HATE the reflected sound of underground spirits (translation: "echo"+"gnomics"... let's see if you can get THAT reference. Smile)

Third - Yeah, I hear you about gaining my defensive skills... but sometimes, you just want to get those bottles dropping into your pack, ya know? *sighs* You're right... I'll go tickle an atrox under the chin and see what happens.

Fourth - Glad to hear I'm not the only one who hates these aggressive little so-and-so's. I'll sweat 'em till they choke on my corpse!

Fifth - That may be, but it'll be a cold day in hell before I recognize Missouri. Hm... something, something... go crazy?

Really? Sweet! Maybe I have some kind of natural gift for finding minable resources, or something.

There's oil under your house, by the way.

Termites too.

For sweating go to a place where there are others who sweat and where there are healers.

Nea's place used to be such a spot. Not sure if it still is.
Also swamp camp (N of PA) is very popular.

When sweating with a few people the mob will hop from one to the other, so reducing the chance of dying.
And a healer skilling is convenient to get your health up quickly.

sweat prices vary. Try different locations, try different times.
Also bigger amounts helps. I guess 0.65 is achievable, but takes some effort. Selling at 0.6 should be quite doable.
You might also want to try to buy some nexus and refine sweat+nexus to ME and sell that.

Dutchie

Enjoy!
