Skill hits = Better loot/deposit.... What do you think?

I think most of us are aware of the perception theory for hunting and the Perception/Geo/Prosp/Survey theory in mining.

My question is has anyone found that htese theories hold true more often than not? If so what do you do when you get a skill hit?

Personnaly I drop anything within radar range and anything within 500M in a cone about 25degrees wide in the direction I was facing when I get a percption hit while hunting. I have been looking at the results and I don't think they are any greater than if I did a kill spree of equal size without a perception hit.

I have also been testing a theory on the alertness skill. When ever I get alertness skill I do the opposite of what I had been doing (so if hunting I drop a bomb and a probe, if mining I drop the closest few mobs). At first it seemed to be working but as time goes on it does not seem to co-relate in any meaningful way.

I would be very interested to hear of any tests you have done and your findings.

I went out and did a few quick tests similar to yours after reading this and have found no corelation between the said skill increases and drops in the imediate area. Seems to be just a random string of coincidences on the part of whoever wrote the theories i cant say theres really any solid consistent evidence to prove it.

I think that each of the two(skills and loot) are completely independant thought sometimes I've noticed when hunting it seems like the opposite of what your said is true. I'll start getting very large amounts of skill gains, yet at the same time my loot turns to absolute shit. I think this is just a coincidence though, or my own mind thinking this.

Well from my experience most of the theories about perception, geology, etc, etc are old theories which back in 2004 held pretty true to form.

Today this does not seem the case. Or if it is still accurate IE when mining for enammter you hit a geolgy skill gain drop an ore bomb. While this may work and find you an ore. It's quite possible when you don't find anything the ore is well beyond the players means to detect it. I have under 1000 in these skilldpts have noted someitmes I find things other times I don't. which would mean it's either random or I suck so bad I can find it that deep.

I went out and did another test with about 200 PED worth of ammo and 100 of each type of mining charge and found that this theory is well and truly busted. There is no corelation betwen skill gains in these areas and mining/creature drops. If there was at sometime in the past there isnt anymore.

Hello Everyone,

Thanks for the help in busting that myth.

In regards to What hottygirl was saying - I too have noticed that if I start getting alot of skills of a mob I get little or no loot. Perhaps there is a link to the loot system after all and it means you skill in place of the loot.

Thanx for the help.

Just read through and also wanted to say thanks for your input on this Myth.

A few of my FL swear by it, but when i followed perception - or skill gains I had no luck either.

I know its not exactly on topic but sort of related. Ive als ofound that when manufacturing items turning the guage from quantity to quality will casue you to fail more. This is common knowledge the interesting thing that ive found tho is that i get considerably more BP quality upgrades when failing more often than i do when i succeed.

I did a test with basic filerst and made 1000 with the slider at each and of the scale and found that the setting which failed more ended up 4.2 QR higher than the other BP. I was just wondering if any other manufacturers have noticed this as well and can seemingly confirm my thory.
