starting with mining?
Hi,
I am considering starting with mining.
Would it be smart to start only with probes until I have build up some skills ?

Enjoy!

Thanks all for your advice.
Everything in EU costs PEDs.
Basically I was considering throwing say 100 ped or so to it to see if it returns something.
I know the theory of mining (I read the alice's and nirfu's guides).
Also my soc has a few skilled miners.
I'm not into fast skills, eco is important to me (otherwise I'll never beat Addz to buying a hangar :-) )
Then again after graduating, I'm a little bit done with rifle for a while (and maybe with hunting) so I am looking for other challenges (went on killing snabbies with tt pistol yesterday, but my evade was not nearly good enough to take them unarmored and unfapped without taking breaks after each mob to heal up).
Enjoy!

Hello,
Raw is right about the markup on ores but you also put out twice the PED to drop a bomb rather than a probe. I have found it ballances out. I still have a lot to learn and loose on runs frequently but I am focusing on ores for the long term gain (I hope).

I think the most critical thing that you should do when getting started in ore mining is getting a good basic detector and finding an area that has plenty of deposits even if its a tiny area. That way u can mine and skill up a tiny bit over time without spending a whole lot of cash. Once you can max out the better finders, then I would say try to find a better larger area to mine in.

They'll jump? How the heck can you say you're gonna be able to hunt at a profit. Using a heatray a and a102 I can't even break even anymore it seems!

Some excellent advise that was given to me by very experienced miners is to NOT up grade to the next finder until you have enough skill to get the same depth (or better) as you had with the old finder.
Ores and Enmatters are very depth dependant so you will not get as many hits or as many higher level ores.

If i may ask, why is CND that much better to skill at? I'd rather not have to pay for a trip there and back if I didn't have to. I have a MF-102 maxed, but it seems everything is skilling VERY slowly now, and I don't want to try going to a MF-103 since the depth isn't a deep as the 102's yet.
I'm curious though, what is the current mining tax at CND?
Thanks,
Del
