PEABoard is doing great!!

I would like to personally thank all of you for getting us off to a great start. It is nice to see that people enjoy our community. Travis and I will be adding more features over the coming weeks. Just to give you a preview there will be a sweat casino, games, lottery and many more things that will make this community a whole lot more fun.

We are also mulling over the idea of after a few months turning the 300 PED per month prize into the lottery prize on the forum. You may use your sweat to buy tickets for the lottery for real PED!! What do you guys think of that? I also would like to ask would the community prefer 1 300PED prize or 3 100PED prizes? I will create a poll on this thread.

Thanks for the input. Please keep in mind that this forum is not for general board suggestions, tech support, etc. I just wanted to give this forum a jump start.

I would also like to mention that we will soon have the ability to allow "sponsored" forums.

Can't wait to hear from you.

A sponsored forum would be for a society or a reporter or article writer. Those are all coming soon.

They will be available for a very small fee. This will help socs with the admin (ugly) side of running a forum. The small fee (if any still have not decided) will go into a fund to be spent on the forum. We do not want your money Smile.

I would say that it would be really nice for the prize to be big but if it was split, then only two 150 ped prizes. I don't really know about the lottery though I don't like the idea that much :-P.

Im going to have to side with hotty on this one im not a huge fan of the lottery idea and i think it would also be better to give a few smaller prizes of 100 PED, that way more different people will win and hopefully remain active within the boards Smile

The sponsord forums though sound like a really good idea. It will be a neat way to try adn attract some larger soc's and more people to the boards Smile

He simply beat the living shit out of everything that was thrown at him, and the game forfeited.

Agree with addz.
100 PED is still quite attractive for a lot of players, and if 100 PED isn't attractive for someone then 300 probably isn't either.
I'm not too thrilled about the lottery idea. That is interesting for those with a lot of sweat, but sweat does not necessarily represent useful-ness.

Enjoy!

Well the trick to the lottery is you can buy as many tickets as you want with your sweat so the more you post the more sweat you earn. The more sweat you earn the more tickets you can buy and the more likely you are to win the prize/s.

Just some thoughts.

volume is not necessarily equaly to quality
Then again quality is not that easy to measure.

Btw you might consider to let the amount of sweat earned also depend on the forum posted. So e.g. off-topic posts get little sweat.

Thinking about this and the quality a little bit more.
What about adding a quality tag th the messages, probably similar to what slashdot does.
I don't know the slashdot system very well, but I've seen something similar on another board.

Basically registered users can rate every post. Users can rate each post once and only increase/decrease the rating by 1.
This is done in a combo box where it also specifies a reason. E.g. +1 interesting, +1 useful, -1 troll

Max score is +4, min is 0 or -1 (actually don't know for sure) and after a certain amounts of ratings are given, the rating is made final by the system.
In order to avoid abuse users have only a certain number of moderation points that they can hand out, depending on activity.

This kind-a creates a self balancing system. mods only need to interfere is message content is offensive or of users really abuse their powers.

The board I am referring to is http://www.tweakers.net. You can see an example here:
http://tweakers.net/nieuws/46439/Britse-...ieden.html
Note however that this is in dutch.

They also have a (dutch) article which explains the system in much more detail.
AFAIK it works there pretty well.

Wrt the sweat/lottery: I can imagine that the amount of sweat gained depends on the rating of the thread by the users.

Dutchie.

PS: msg me if someone needs more info on this rating system.

Enjoy!

Dutchie.

Actually sweat is an awesome indicator of usefulness. The reason for this being is you gain sweat for replies to the threads you post which means the people who post things that are interesting and get a lot of conversation going are going to have mroe sweat than the reply only people. Anyway I am still reading this and am taking all comments into consideration Smile

Kaiser: I have to say that sweat isn't always an awesome indicator of usefulness. I think that we should get some credit from other things as well. For example the joke's thread if someone posts a very large joke just ends up being a sweat whoring thread, as I just realized. Maybe you could put the jokes stick up somehow and remove the ability to get sweat from it? Also, if someone just posts a large amount of spam they get a large quantity of sweat too. Finally, don't forget the extra sweat you get from just making a single post or thread, just as this one.

It would be nice with a big prize. but spliting the into 3 price make it that more forum-people can win. Who I'm for.
My proposal it as folloing. 3 prices every month in the quantity of.
1. price 150 ped
2. price 100 ped
3. price 50 ped

And when it comes to the lottery. Lottery can be a good thing. and buy ticket for the sweat if a way to solve it.
But, and it's a big but. Because of you can buy lottering ticket with sweat, some people can spam the forum just for the sweat. And for those as run the forum, it mean more jobb to make the forum spam free.
One way to solve the problem is to make it so, that you can only by certain quantity of lotto tickets.
Or you can only buy for a certain amount of sweat.
One ather way to the lotto buy problem it's to make it so that the peolpe in the forum can give each other sweat. Just like we do with karma. so if someone post a good reply we can give it sweat for it. That make it unnecessary to post spam reply.
Even if the will come more post or reply for the attractive sweat. This way make it that the post and reply at least have someone of value.

What about making the amount of sweat dependent onthe forum. So in the topical forums you should get more sweat than in the general forum and perhaps the trading/testing/bling bling forums should not get any sweat.

Enjoy!
